A production toolset for lifelike face animations

Face Robot is the production toolset that simplifies the complex process of preparing the face for animation by creating organic skin movement as the user animates.  As a result, artists have extremely precise control over their creations and are able to realize lifelike and emotive face animation more quickly and efficiently.

Significantly faster than traditional means

Face Robot revolutionizes the traditional time-consuming and complex process of preparing the face for animation.  With its unique ‘jellyfish’ soft tissue solver, it dramatically decreases the time needed to go from modeling to animation.

Better quality, art-directed results

Face Robot moves skin in an organic, lifelike manner and includes a corrective sculpting system that leaves artists in complete control.

Soft tissue solver needs fewer control points

Through its unique approach, Face Robot requires dramatically fewer markers for motion capture than traditional systems (around 30).  As a result, Face Robot makes the simultaneous capturing of dialogue and face acting more economical and removes the correlation between the quantity of dialogue and the cost of animation for motion capture projects.

Game export pipeline

Using the Face Robot game export pipeline, artists now have a scalable solution for achieving high-quality in-game acting with detailed facial nuances. In addition, the ability to export the high-quality motion data provided by the upcoming Contour Reality Capture System directly into the Face Robot environment will create a powerful new end-to-end facial animation pipeline for both film and game productions.

Designed for mixed pipelines

Incorporating Face Robot into any character production pipeline is straightforward because of its support for the import and export of assets from applications such as Autodesk® 3ds Max® and Maya®. Face Robot also comes complete with a copy of Point Oven, offering .lwo2 and .psc support for robust interop with virtually any pipeline.

SOFTIMAGE|FACE ROBOT is available in two distinct versions.  Face Robot Designer provides technical directors with a flexible platform for defining facial behavior.  For animators, Face Robot Animator is a clean, artistic environment for keyframe animation and motion capture. 

 

  • Face Robot Designer is a complete environment for preparing, solving, and animating faces. By applying a patent-pending solver based on a model of soft tissue behavior, Face Robot Designer deforms the face in an art directable manner. Face Robot Designer provides a corrective sculpting system for complete artist control of facial behavior and includes tools for defining wrinkles and puffing, placing tendons, and tuning the mouth.  All of the functionality of Face Robot Animator is included in Face Robot Designer.
  • Face Robot Animator animates faces prepared using Face Robot Designer.  Face Robot Animator is a hybrid environment for both keyframe animation and motion capture.  It uses a powerful retargeting algorithm that transfers animation and motion capture across faces and provides high-level tuning controls
